FIXING THINGS – IELTSITY SPEAKING SAMPLES – BAND 8+

Fixing things là một trong những topic cơ bản nhưng khá thú vị ở trong IELTS Speaking. Các bạn hãy cùng IELTSITY tham khảo 3 bài mẫu về chủ đề fixing things ở dưới này nhé!

Do you like to fix things?

I don’t think I like repairing things, even though this skill can come in handy (trở nên có ích) in many situations. Sometimes a light bulb in my house needs replacing and sometimes the bathroom drain is stuck. I must admit that it’s quite frustrating to get a handyman (thợ sửa chữa) every time a home appliance (đồ gia dụng) goes out of order (hỏng hóc, trục trặc), but there is nothing else I can do considering how bad I am at this job.

I must admit that + mệnh đề: Phải thừa nhận rằng …

Bạn có thể sử dụng cụm này khi muốn công nhận, thừa nhận một điều không mấy dễ chịu.

Ví dụ: I must admit that Manchester City deserve the league title.

I must admit that your proposal was better than mine.

Considering + cụm danh từ: Xét đến …

Bạn dùng cụm này khi muốn đưa ra thêm thông tin về hoàn cảnh của một sự việc.

Ví dụ:

You shouldn’t have said the food was bad, considering the effort your mother put into cooking.

The singer should receive more respect from the public for her achievement, considering the fact that she just started working in this field for a few years.

Who taught you to fix things when you were young?

Apparently it’s my dad! Whenever he had to fix a broken thing in the house, he would take me with him so that he could instruct (hướng dẫn) me how to do it step by step (từng bước một). I thought he wanted me to be able to fix simple household appliances and get me prepared for when I become a grown-up man and start my own family.

Get sb prepared for sth: Chuẩn bị cho ai đó trước khi đối diện một vấn đề

Ví dụ:

This course gets students prepared for the upcoming exams.

Learning to cook is a good way to get you prepared for living alone when studying abroad.

What do you think cannot be repaired once broken?

Hmm, I think it’s glass objects. Say, if a glass vase falls to the ground it’s gonna be shattered (bị vỡ tan) into hundreds of tiny shards (mảnh vỡ thủy tinh). It’s not like you can mend (chữa lành, hàn gắn) the thing with glue or anything, so you had better replace the vase with a new one.
